Alternate Endings: Finishing the last level of the game under the Legendary difficulty setting will trigger a slightly different ending then on the other difficulty settings.

In addition, playing the game on the Legendary setting will have slightly different dialogues and movie cutscenes throughout the game (for example, your fellow marines will tend to be a little more "descriptive" when talking amongst themselves).

Hidden Messages: At the main menu under Settings, create a new profile with the name .fortune and you will get a different random message every time you do this.

New Weapons: If you beat the game on the Normal difficulty, then win again on Legendary in under three hours, you will unlock two new guns.

Taking on the Flood: The best way for the beating the Flood is the shotgun. Most of the time they are carrying shotguns and shotgun ammo anyway so you usually don't run out of ammo. But still don't get too carried away...make every shot count! If you do run out of ammo, then the Plasma rifle is probably your second best bet.
